Where were you born?

Australia.

Where do you live/work?

Melbourne, Australia.

What fuels your desire to act/create?

I love to interrogate, illuminate, question, evaluate, propose alternatives and deeply examine issues. Art is at its best when we walk away feeling we have learned/understood something or changed an opinion.

The best thing about being an artist is...

The variety. There’s always a new challenge, a new opportunity, a new issue to tackle and lots of self-improvement to be had.

The biggest obstacle in working with self is?

Staying motivated when the going gets tough. I tend to have so much I want to do at any one time, that as soon as something gets a little bit boring in the process, I look to focus my attention on something else more interesting. Focus and self-discipline are essential skills, but hard to practice.

What advice you would give self at the very beginning of your training and professional career?

Always listen to people with more experience than you. You don’t know it all, and you can always learn something new. It’s fine to be energetic and passionate, but don’t let that get in the way of staying open to trying new things.

Are there any strategies/rituals you created to help self in times when working feels difficult, when you feel stuck?

I seek advice from collaborators that I trust. Generally when I’m stuck, it’s because I’m spending too much time in my own head. Hearing other people’s opinions will often help me to find a solution or at least a way around the current hurdle.

What other art form do you connect to? How does this craft/discipline help you in your work?

I try to keep an open mind with most art forms, but there’s definitely something in watching modern dance work and learning about new and exciting ways the body can be used as a tool for expression. Whilst I’ll never be a dancer, there are definitely elements that can be incorporated into physical theatre practice.

Describe a productive day at work?

Overcoming that really hard obstacle you’ve been agonizing over in the rehearsal room. There’s no greater feeling than making those discoveries and leaps of progress.

How do you reward self for a job well done?

A quiet glass of red, and a sneaky piece of chocolate.
